Materials and Equipment

Generally speaking, the best wood to work with has an even tone and grain, but I’ve found you can get results from pretty much anything. You just have to adjust your technique to suit the medium. Surfaces I’ve burnt include Basswood, Maple Plywood, Balsa and Pine. I especially enjoy working with pine because it is a relatively soft wood, …

Inspiration and Subject Matter

Born and raised in Western Canada within close proximity to the Rocky Mountains, “Canadiana” has become the primary focus of my work. Our national symbol, the maple leaf, is a wonderful subject matter for pyrography. The intricate veins and craggy outlines become abstract topographies when burnt into wood.
